Before a trip to Germany, he prepared well and read literature. To visit identified several cities and attractions. Among them was the Victory Column (Siegessäule) in Berlin, which I did not have time to see on my last visit. I really wanted to. The Victory Column, the people still call it Golden Elsa, is interesting not only because it offers magnificent bewitching views of Berlin, but also its history. This place in the last weeks of World War II served as an airfield for the Third Reich, and the Victory Column was a control tower.

A bit of history. The column was erected in memory of the victories of Prussia in several wars by decree of William I. The opening took place on September 2, 1873. But with the advent of Hitler to power, perestroika of Berlin began. The Big Star Square (Großer Stern) was created, where the Column was moved to, having previously dismantled it.

And finally, the dream came true. I'm at the foot of the newly restored Victory Column. In the rays of the spring sun she is simply amazing! To climb to the observation deck, you need to pay 3 euros and walk up to a height of 48 m, because no elevator. But you will be rewarded with a magnificent view of Berlin. And here is the main panoramic view to the city center, for the sake of which everything was started. Here it is - the last airdrome of the Third Reich, which was supposed to become, by the design of Albert Speer, the chief architect, even before the war. And the column played the role of an aerodrome control tower. The Führer was to be evacuated from here. The last departure from this airfield took place on April 28, 1945, and the Luftwaffe Robert von Greim was taken out by the Commander-in-Chief. The pilot was Hannah Reitsch the best aviator in Germany.
